چکیده

We rst study the capacity of Nakagami multipath fading (NMF) channels with an average power constraint for three power and rate adaptation policies. We obtain closed-form solutions for NMF channel capacity for each power and rate adaptation strategy. Results show that rate adaptation is the key to increasing link spectral eeciency. We analyze therefore the performance of constant-power variable-rate M-QAM schemes over NMF channels. We obtain closed-form expressions for the outage probability, spectral eeciency and average bit-error-rate (BER) assuming perfect channel estimation and negligible time delay. We also analyze the impact of time delay on the BER of adaptive M-QAM.

An adaptive modulation scheme for simultaneous voice and data transmission over fading channels

We propose a new adaptive modulation technique for simultaneous voice and data transmission over fading channels and study its performance. The proposed scheme takes advantage of the time-varying nature of fading to dynamically allocate the transmitted power between the inphase (I ) and quadrature (Q) channels. It uses fixed-rate binary phase shift keying (BPSK) modulation on the Q channel for ...

ALOUINI AND GOLDSMITH: A UNIFIED APPROACH TO THE ERROR RATES 0 A Uni ed Approach for Calculating Error Rates of Linearly Modulated Signals over Generalized Fading Channels

We present a uniied analytical framework to determine the exact average symbol-error-rate (SER) of linearly modulated signals over generalized fading channels. The results are applicable to systems employing coherent demodulation with maximal-ratio combining multichannel reception. The analyses assume independent fading paths which are not necessarily identically distributed. In all cases the p...

Capacity of Nakagami Multipath Fading Channels

We study the capacity of Nakagami multipath fading (NMF) channels with an average power constraint for three power and rate adaptation policies. We obtain closed-form solutions for NMF channel capacity (with and without diversity) for each power and rate adaptation strategy, and compare them with the additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) channel capacity. The capacity of a NMF channel is always ...

Area Spectral Efficiency of Cellular Systems with Nakagami Multipath Fading

The eeects of Nakagami multipath fading and log-normal shadowing on the area spectral eeciency (ASE) of cellular systems with variable-rate transmission is studied. Results indicate that the ASE increases as fading on both the desired and interfering signals decreases. In addition, the ASE is predominantly aaected by the channel quality of the desired users, rather than by the fading parameter ...
